rat poison!
Go up there, make as big a noise as possible to scare them out of the loft, then block up wherever it is they came in from.
Cat....
Agree with Roslyn.
Surprised the Council won't come out - they do in my neck of the woods (NW) cos I know someone who had the same problem. They do kill them though which is a shame, but I don't suppose you can have squirrels taking over your loft !
Or if you know anyone with a ferret that might do it!

I think she's tried Rat Poison, also they have blocked all the holes up too,but they are still getting up there?
They chew anything and everything including electric cables !
if she's blocked up all the entrance ways, they aint still getting in, it's the ones still there causing the problems.
Probably through the soffits.

Someone else has taken over her council,Watford area and they won't apparently. My mum has recommended using Chilli Powder?
Baited traps are effective - they go with a 'thunk' and then you need to remove them, empty and re-set.
Sounds cruel but dead is dead, poison is slow.
And then the poison squirrel lies in the loft rotting.....
Chili powder would be OK if you are marinating the squirrels before stewing. But don't stew them if they've had rat poison.
I assume these are grey squirrels. If you trap them it is illegal to release them back in to the wild. You either have to keep them or kill them.

I agree with Mosaic - baited traps, or call an expert in.
or try these people in london.

We've got one of those in our garden gsr600 - no use whatsoever! They still scavenge all they can from my bird table until I squirt them with a supersoaker gun!
They won't die immediately from the poison. They used to come in my loft under the soffits but all are now securely blocked up.
Blocking soffits - not a good idea. You should allow air to circulate in your roof space - you need some kind of grill to let the air in but filter out the squirrels.
