Can you shoot them? One squirrel in the garden is driving me nuts!!!!

Theres always only one, and he sits there looking at you and I'm sure he is smirking at me, staring me out. Help --can I buy an airgun?

He is causing havoc in my garden and driving us both mad.

Neither pusskin, just toss the occasional bag of nuts into your neighbours' gardens.
i would stop attracting them with 'bird' food and be glad i haven't got rats there!

ha ha cant throw nuts into next doors garden. one side has never ever fed birds and has a very neat all grass garden. other side puts food out for squirrels so ----
If you feel you really must get rid of this squirrel then I would suggest, as shoota has, that you find someone from a local club who has a suitable gun and who can do the job quickly and cleanly. My son is a member of such a club and often shoots pests on peoples land. We are too far away but there is bound to be someone local to you who would come out.
Don't try to get rid of the Squirrels get an Anti-Squirrel Bird Feeder, plenty of choice here

Seriously, shoot it, gut and skin it, turn it into pate or rillette.....

I'm now wondering how to deal with an excess of magpies......

lol Ecclescake.

I'd buy an anti squirrel thingy but I have 5 different varieties of nuts and grain for birds, so would be expensive.
Will put my thinking cap on tomorrow and see what decision I come up with.

Thanks Abers for all replies x
I think you are all cruel. Get some anti squirrel bird feeders, if there is no food source in your garden he will go elsewhere.
Grey squirrels are vermin and you are quite within your rights to kill it. I'm surprised nobody has suggested trapping it but be warned it is actually illegal to release a live trapped grey squirrel back into the wild.
just throw cold water over him they hate it. liz davis
swap you my 7 for your 1.....I hate the little blighters...At the moment they seem to be raiding all the bird nests in the garden and chucking the babies out (Grrrrr)
We had a squirrel visitor a year ago, at first I put nuts and seeds out for it and to attract the birds, but the birds stayed away. Then it started digging up the lawn to store the nuts. Mrask got fed up with that.. I just stopped putting food out and it hasn't been back since.
You can shoot if its Grey

Oh mazie, I would be heartbroken and horrified if the squirrels got hold of the baby birds or raided their nests.
I used to love squirrels till they destroyed 2 of our cool boxes in 2 days while camping few yrs ago. They look cute but I hate the little blighters.
I just dont know what to do at minute.
Hi pusskin...I was in the garden yesterday doing the borders and found 2 small hatchlings dead... The crows or magpies would have taken them for food the squirrels do it because they can.....
They are easy to catch in a humane cat trap or similar. Then put the whole trap in a large carton with a round hole on the side, the same size as your exhaust pipe. That way it will go to sleep without pain.

I don't like guns and am appalled that any animal lover would suggest such a thing.
I have a squirrel too, and I look forward to seeing him in the garden everyday. I'm not aware that he does any damage. Neighbours cats - now that's another story.....
Pusskin, what sort of poles are your feeders on?, if they are the metal kind ( I have these) what I do is buy a huge tub of petroleum jelly from Poundland and smear it up the pole, this prevents the squirrels from being able to climb up, but in order for it to work, your poles must be far enough away from fences, garages etc from which they can jump and boy can they jump! If you have a dog, make sure you start the greasing far enough up so that if your dog cocks its leg, it doesn't get smeared with grease (can you tell I found that out the hard way!)
Get a squirrel feeder hang it away from the bird feeders better to control the behaviour than kill an innocent animal
