We have an 8 year old jack Russell and for the past 2 mornings we've been woken at 6 by him howling. Nothing's changed and wen we go down he's just lied on his bed and stops. He's always walked twice a day and still eating and accepting treats. There's no new dogs in the street however next door but one have a 5-6 year old female boxer. Could she be in heat? He's done it once or twice before
Oh Yes. That'll definitely be it. I had exactly the same problem with a JR and a Std Poodle on heat next door. Had to send him to stay with a relation until she was no longer in heat.
Unexplained sudden howling? A dog? There'll definitely be a bitch in heat somewhere! And her owner will be wondering why she's suddenly so keen to get out and about, if they haven't noticed. Still, if the only bitch in the vicinity is the boxer , you'll have six months of peace from your dog soon.
