My 8 yr old spaniel chews her feet and tail. The vet has given me an anti-fungal shampoo to use but that has not really helped. Does anyone know of a herbal remedy that has worked for their dog? My dog is fit and well but I am sure that this skin irritation must be driving her mad. Thanks in anticipation.
It's not clear from your post whether or not the veterinarian actually diagnosed a fungus as the cause of the chewing or only assumed this to be the case. I've had the experience of a dog chewing her feet, especially the toe nails, and found this to be caused by stress. In her case, it was being left alone for an extended period of time. Once this was addressed, the chewing stopped. Perhaps your dog has undergone some sort of out of the ordinary stress? Best of luck!
Thanks Clanad. The vet examined her and said that he thought it was a fungal infection. The dog isn't ever left alone as she is looked after by my neighbour when I am at work - she's totally spoilt!
