Are riders not obliged to pick up the poo of the horses they're on in the same way that dog-owners/walkers are required to? And, if not, why not as it makes much more of a mess.

I remember quite a heated thread about this some time ago, and the answer, thank goodness is no, they don't.

Would you honestly expect riders, to dismount, on the road, scoop up crap, holding up the traffic while they do it?
No they aren't but they shouldn't be riding on the pavement as that is illegal so there shoudn't be horsepoo on the pavement.
And its usually on a road, where (usually) only cars go on- so it makes a mess...how?
So far as I know, dog owners don't have to poopscoop if it's in the road either, but I wouldn't be asking my dog to poo in the road or in the gutter.....way too dangerous.
Does it carry the same risks as dog poo?
no ummmm, being herbivores their poo is totally organic.
I suspect the law is as it is because it was the landed gentry that rode horses and they couldn't be considered liable to clear that up as they go. But the plus point i s that vegatarian poo is less potentially dangerous to you than other poo. Which is why you can shovel it up and put it on your rhubarb (before picking & stewing it).
Horses can have worms though and horse poo iirc carries a risk of tetanus if you get it in an open wound.
Lol OG ......stewed poo.
It's pretty dangerous if you're on a motorbike and it's in the middle of the road though!
Can't horses wear nappies?
Can you imagine the size poo bags you'd have to carry? Pedal bin liners!
Can't horses wear nappies?
Yes they can.

It used to be that dogs were encouraged to poo in the gutter but that is rarely done now for the reasons given, and anyway it is still illegal not to clear it up. Horse poo is totally organic and I can remember the scramble to get the droppings when the rag and bone man had been.
Just get a shovel and bucket and collect it yourself. It's brilliant for the roses and you can annoy your neighbours the same time with the smell!
lol, you've just reminded me Lankeela of desperately trying to drag my dog, when i was a kid, to the edge of the pavement for him to have a crap.
We only got a balloon lankeela. :)
Organic gold for the strawberries.
