Just infuriate me...

I have a vague acquaintance on FaceBook, and she posted her cat wasn't well, so I asked what was wrong and just got this back...

" He was sick last night and I hadn't seen him all morning, went outside and he was under a bush he couldn't stand up, I thought he had been hit by a car a first but no other signs if that, he is very unsteady on his back legs and won't eat or drink, he is cold and shivering, got him wrapped up in a blanket at the mo, and he hasn't moved for about 2 hrs"

I mean for Gods sake, any normal caring person would take it to the vets- right? I don't understand some people I really don't! And yes, i've told her so too!

I have a certain amount of sympathy for your friends attitude.......cats seem to have their own specific way of dealing with diseases........going under a bush, not eating and staying away from humans is a typical response for cats.

I would certainly give it 24hours to see what the situation was, before taking it to the vets.
If it can't walk, I wouldn't!

naomi.....;-)
Reading this is like banging my head against a brick wall...the woman sounds like an idiot. Granted-she knows her cat best, but if he can't walk-that alone could indicate he may have been hit by a car. Does she need to see blood streaming out of him to get her act together??

I dunno Pasta :-(

I did suggest that it could very well have been hit by a car and have internal injuries.

As ive said, there's not a lot more I can do, I nagged and suggested walking up to hers with my own cat basket if she wanted, which I would gladly have done, which is when she came back and said she's waiting on her husband.
Sounds to me like the cat is in shock of some kind, either from an injury or from infection. Whatever the cause it sounds very serious to me and frankly I would have been in a taxi and on my way to the vets not posting on Facebook. I'd worry about paying for it later, there is no excuse for letting an animal suffer. I hope for the cats sake it gets treatment soon and that it's not too late. Keep us posted Boo.

will do ratty.
This poor woman with the cat may be frantic, stuck at home with small children , or no form of transport to get the cat to the vet -she is keeping it warm and waiting for her husband to get home- really no need for all this venom. Those of us lucky enough to be able to jump in a car and rush the cat to the Vet would do so but none of you (even the OP) know her personal circumstances -its not like she can call an ambulance. I hope the Cat is ok but find this 'mob' mentality a bit disturbing ;-(

Her children aren't at home (I know as just before that post she said she was looking forward to them coming home tomorrow) and she lives 2 minutes walk from the nearest vets- as far as im concerned there's no excuse.
ok sorry Boo - missed the post on her living 2 minutes from Vet -no excuse then really -hopefully kitty will be ok x

i know i sound like kind of stalker, but i know exactly where she lives as ive been to her house when i was collecting something, and honestly, the vets is about 5 minutes walk, tops.
how about the money angle, its very costly going to the vets these days?
i know there are some charitable organisations that can treat animals for free but perhaps she is skint
Look at the worst she could have phoned the vets for advice - I've done so before.

I don't think it is "mob" mentality at all. I think we just think she is a bit stupid. If you have decided you want the responsibility of keeping an animal I'm afraid it can be a tough one at times.
I'd guess she's worried about the cost. If you live that close to the vet, surely you'd scoop the puss up in your arms and run there with him?

I'm with you though, B00. I'd act first, then think about the cost later.
i had a cat for many years and know the heartache when it's sick. I did take mine to a vets hospital as i knew they would treat it for free or a small donation.
Cats don't like to be seen as weak and often play down any injuries - usually they can be quite ill before we, stupid, humans realise.

Frankie usually goes a bit weak and pathetic when he is ill (typical male) but his sister (Princess Stupid) has never been ill.

I noticed earlier that Frankie had a couple of holes in his face that weren't there this morning - they are Princess claw sized holes.

Hope this little pussy cat is okay.
Any news Boo? I hope it's had treatment now and will be OK.
