fish tank hoover

does anyone know how to make and use the bottom cleaners for a fish tank,,,

I'm not sure if u mean undergravel filters or them vaccum type things that clean the gravel whenever you use it.

 

if you want the gravel cleaning then the best thing to do is what i have which is get an under gravel cleaning system. This just consists of a white plastic sheet with holes in that you attach tubes to. then you put an air tube with an air stone to the end which pulls the water through the gravel. It is very cheap to buy and has the added effect of keeping the water moving. The box will prob explain a lot better than i have.

thanks Kelleyx  but i did mean the hoover type effergy,,,but i will consider a undergravel filter ,as i used to use them before ,, jase

the hoover type ones are ok, but i have a tall tank so the bag that collects the dirt is still in the water so i steer clear of them. in my opinion the hoover types dont work very well. (by the way, the hoover types work very near the same as under gravel cleaners as you need to put an air tube inside it to pull the water up through the bag)

Hagan make a really good vacuum gravel cleaner. It works by a syphon method. Its a long plastic tube with a larger rigid plastic tube on the other end that you stick into the gravel, next get a bucket handy suck the end of the tube ( the one outside the tank) then as long as the end of the pipe is lower than the tank you will have fantastic suction. You then need to place the end in the tank in the gravel, lift up and watch the poo and pollution run out of the tank. If you need to stop the water flow at any time, just place your finger over the end of the tube.
