Those of you who read Lankeela's thread will know I adopted a tiny 15 year old sweet little JRT girl with snaggly teeth and failing kidneys on 1 April. If you are interested there is a picture of her on the aforementioned thread.

Well I'm afraid it's been an awful 10 days, for her as well as me. She would only eat sporadically, even when hand fed tasty morsels and had to take her to the vet where she has been on a drip on Monday, home Monday night, fighting the drip, hating it, back to vet yesterday morning and on drip again all day. Fetched her home last night and she looked good, had eaten a whole packet of food at the vets. She took some more from my hand last night and drank plenty. But this morning was like from a horror film. Puddles of poo and vomit and saliva and wee everywhere. She was walking round and round groaning. Awful. I knew it was the end, scooped her up and straight to the vet where I held her and stroked her while she was put out of her misery.

I'm now questioning whether she should have been rescued in the first place. RIP little Jess.

If you hadn't taken her into your heart and your home you would have always wondered if your loving would have made a difference to her life. She must have been a lot more unwell than anybody realised.

So sorry to hear this Ladybirder, RIP little Jess x
Omg.how awful for you and the poor wee thing...at least she knew someone cared at the end xx
How very, very sad.
Sad news ladybirder, you have done the right thing by her, she was loved.
Oh dear that's very sad. How did she come to be rescued in the first place if her original family wanted her put to sleep, did the vet rehome her slyly or did they give consent, because if they didn't give consent then perhaps they decided to have her put to sleep because they felt it was the end. So sorry you got the upsetting end of this though.

Thank you everyone, it is very very sad. She was so distressed this morning when I got up and so was I when I saw the state of her.

The family gave consent for her to be rehomed. She had been neglected for the last 5 years of her life. With hindsight it might have been better to have let her go then. In 20 days she lost 20% of her bodyweight. I would have been happy if we could have had a lovely summer together, on the beach and in the park. Bugger.

Got to take 20year old cat Maggie (guess who after, her brother Denis died) to the groomers. Back later.
OMG thats so so sad, brought a tear to my eye. You did your very best for her
Ladybird. Yes little Jess RIP>

Jem.
Oh ladybirder, you cared for her in the end and she passed being loved xxx
That is so sad, she was lucky to have you look after her at the end.xx

Thank you all. I hope she knew, I tried, but not sure she was well enough to take full advantage of me. Everybody here in my flats fell in love with her. She was such a frail tiny little thing and brought out tenderness in the hardest heart. Better with me I suppose than in a kennel for her last days.

A sad ending, but at least someone cared, well done you.

Thanks Wolf and Baldrick for your kind words. I hope I did the right thing. But had my doubts when I saw the state she was in this morning.
Oh ladybirder, I'm so sorry to read this :( Thinking of you xx

You gave her love and care right to the end, which her owners had denied her, so even though it was short, it was worth it for her to know she was cared about at the end. So sorry to read this but you tried your best for her and when it mattered you gave her a dignified end.
How awful for you and her.
Just seen your update - so sorry but well done for making the end of her life as good as you could have. Poor little thing x
So very sorry to read of this, the poor little thing, it's heartbreaking isn't it.

God bless you for doing all you could for her. xxx
At least you did your best for her.
I have a poorly doggy and facing the same dilema . So so hard to know what to do but when they get that poorly you don't really have a choice.
