1.On TV tonight I saw an intelligent bird feeding itself.
2. There was food floating on the top of water in a tall vessel of about 2 inches in diameter.
3. Nearby was a pile of small stones.
4. The bird picked up the stones and dropped them in the vessel to raise the level of the water until it could eat the food.
Conclusion:- I shall not use the term "bird brained" anymore.
Certain to be one of the crow family; the brightest of all. They can easily solve problems like that. They have been tested when they have had to fashion a hook out of a twig to retrieve something, and have managed that. Thank goodness they haven't got opposable thumbs, or they'd rule the world !
ive seen this experiment before. The bird was trained to act in this way, just like rats in a cage can be programmed to act to stimuli. My first reaction was how does this info benefit us and how was this project being funded.
I remember ages ago watching a David Attenborough prog on TV. They were at Sea World in Florida and at one of the pools you could buy a pot of 'nuggets' to feed to the fish. Obviously some people are not very good at throwing and the nuggets landed on the rocks around the edge. A Green Heron came along, picked up a nugget, then placed it gently on the water just in 'striking range'. Result..dinner!!
