My X raceing greyhound has hurt 1 of her toes on her back leg, she is limping a bit, still eating as normal. She licks it sometimes, what i want to know is should i still take her out for a walk for her toilet, or just let her go in the garden... Thanks....

Not sure about taking her out but she may have picked up a grass seed. May be a good idea to let the vet have a look.

Roo_power Thanks.. I have had a look i cannot see anything like a seed, i think i will try to keep her quiet for a couple of days to see if it lets up, if it's no better i will take her to the vets..
Greyhounds often dislocate their toes and if it creates a weakness then the vet will sometimes remove the toe. I would keep her in the garden for a few days but if it is a knocked up toe then it won't heal itself, it will either need putting back or removing. Are you sure she hasn't pulled a nail out or cut a pad? If not better in a day or two then take her to the vets.

lankeela.. I have tried to look inside the toes, but it hurts her to much at the moment, her nail is ok i checked that so i will give her a couple of days to see how she goes, if no better i will take her to the vets.. Thanks..
If it is a knocked up toe then the joint is usually swollen so you would be able to see it. Sometimes removing the whole nail (i.e. cutting it right back) relieves the pressure (but I can't do it myself!). Keeping nails short helps to stop it happening.

Well My girls paw seems to have got better, she was walking today without a limp, eating and seems her normal self, thanks every one for your answers and suggestions... So it seems that sometimes it is ok to wait a while and not panic, i would have a large vets bill to pay for something that sorted its self out. It would be nice though not to have to way up should i, or shouldn't i take her to the vets, if only the fees were a bit lower and not so exorbitantly high. I was looking on the web at some medication to buy on line and looked at an older bill i had for another pup, i paid the vet £25 for some medication, which online cost £3.25, so i ask myself why do they put so much money on top... Thanks all..
