Parrots, which cockatiels belong too all seem to have excellent colour vision. They use this colour to check the ripeness of fruits etc. and often employ brightly coloured feeathers (yellow face and rosy cheeks of the cockatiel) in sexual displays unlike most mammals that predominately use their sense of smell to find food. The Apes and Monkeys are the obvious exception among mammals to this rule having excellent colour vision also.
