Blackbirds

Having entertained and fed 3 families of Blackbirds during the summer including 1 female who came to our back door 3 times a day for currants. If we did not see her she would fly on the windowsill and tap!
Now they have all disappeared. Does anyone know where they go to as they seem to reappear in the Winter?

Between us my neighbour and I had four pairs and they have all gone, we were discussing it yesterday. I will be very interested to see the replies to this thread. Thank you for posting it.

we have had the same mummy black birds (2) for two summers now ,one in the backgarden and one in the front ,so with luck you will see yours again. Where do they go - sorry don't know.

There have been records of resident birds making journeys across the UK on an annual basis. One such bird, nicknamed Homer, has travelled from a garden in Thetford, Norfolk where he has spent the summer, to Devon where he has wintered for at least three years.

That has solved my mystery too. Mine were so tame and also enjoyed currants and sultanas. I have just been given a bucket of apple windfalls which i will now
leave to go bad as when they come back in the Winter they will enjoy especially if there is snow on the ground.

I was very, very interested to read this thread as I too have had the same happen to me. I have a female blackbird who has visited me for four years now and comes right up to my back door as I feed her grapes. She only comes in the spring and vanishes at the end of the nesting season and never comes back in the winter. I really hope she comes back next spring, but it will be her fifth year, I wonder how long they live ?

This is the time when most food is available in the fields and hedgerows, Berries, seeds, insects etc. They will be back in your garden later in the year
