My kittens weed around the house a couple of times useually behind my armchair but as they got a little older this did stop.
I hope this helps a little bit.
I'm really no expert, but cats certainly have a good sense of smell.
One idea is to scoop up the poo by the door and put it in the litter tray (so the smell is then associated with the tray. You need to really clean the area by the door to take away any poo smell. Try squeezing a lemon and mix with a little hot water. Wash the door area with this to create a nice smell. It may also be a good idea to wash the outside of the door. I have had Toms 'marking their boundary' by weeing on the front door (And before we have any comments, Yes, Im still talking about cats!!!), especially if they think another cat is in the house.
Is there a way to block the area off to the front door? Another idea is to try a different litter in the tray. Do you know what type the kitten used when he was trained? If it is a different smell, the chances are he/she will not associate that smell with the tray. Ive always found Fullers Earth is a good choice (and its one of the cheapest!).
Hope this helps, and keeps us informed of how it goes.
Tabby.
Okay, stopping it happening - try putting some tin foil down there. Cats hate the sound and texture. By far the best way though, is to put their food bowl in the affected place. As I said above, cats will not mess where they eat. Don't worry, you don't have to keep it there forever, just until there are no more accidents.
Lastly, when you clean the area, sprinkle some citrus juice around it (cats hate citrus) and do NOT use an ammonia based cleaner - all that will happen is the cat will mess there more frequently to try and cover up the smell.
