Yep Peri, definitely animals & Nature. OK, 2 replies so far and I'm starting to panic. Please, someone from Yorkshire - don't let the hubby win!
A spider? Daddy long legs?
Hi dmsjps, I searched around the net looking for it but couldn't find anything even on the yorkshire dialect sites, but I did get waylaid looking at a dictioary of slang, which was fascinating. I'd be inclined to agree with shaneystar, can I have a clue?
Question Author
Yeah, it is to do with animals and nature, it is a daddy long legs. Don't ask me where the name came from though, because I have no idea; it's just what we've always called them for as long as I can remember.
Do you use that term? So,if one flew round your living room would you say "there's are jimmy spinner" or what

Round of applause for shaneystar!!

Yep, where's the choccie cake for shaneystar Peri? Yes lozzzz, there was one in the conservatory last night and I said exactly that: 'Look, there's a jimmy spinner, get rid of it,' to my husband, who said, 'A what?' Then he told me to post it on AB.
Whoooo Hooooo!!!
Where's my cake!!!
On second thoughts Robinia I'd better not in case JG is haunting this section.
(This is about FP's thread on CB by the way)
Sorry for the late answer, only just registered, but to throw some more light or confusion onto things a Jimmy Spinner is another name for a crane fly sometime also referred to as a Daddy-Long-Legs (I believe wrongly). They are usually found in your bedroom late at night flicking around the ceiling. Whilst as Daddy-long-legs is what I commonly refer to as a walking current. Small round body with hellishly long legs.. or a harvestman, and are earth bound... Don't get me onto there poisonous bite...
Just seen this while looking for references to a Jimmy Spinner on google. I keep trying to tell my bloke that the flying things that click on light bulbs are called Jimmy Spinners, he says they are daddy long legs. We always called long legged spiders that though. I don't know where you are from but I am originally from Leeds.
