Treating Sores On Dog's Legs.

My dog has 2 sores under her armpits where a harness was being used (I've since abandoned the harness).
Is there a way of treating these without using some overpriced product from my vet?
I'm thinking of a natural remedy or maybe a safe ointment used by humans.

I'd just use a saline solution and bathe it. (1 teaspoon of salt in a pint of boiled water. Let it cool before use.)

That harness must have been very tightly fitting, spider.

You can get antiseptic ointment for dogs from some pet shops otherwise you could use a bit of Sudocrem from the chemist on it if it's very sore. I think you might want to try a better fitting harness, a good pet shop should help you get a good fit. My two wear them every time they leave the house, I think they're much safer on busy roads than just a collar.

Surely your dog will just lick it off anyway?

+1 for Sudocrem. I used it on Sally when she had some skin irritation...worked great.

I use Holland and Barret's aloe vera gel- heals really quickly and is non toxic so even if they lick it off no harm done.

Sorry but I would go to the vet as she may need antibiotics to prevent infection setting in. How could you let it get so bad that is has caused sores?

Keep it bathed with warm salt water and dry it thoroughly.

In answer to lankeela she has worn this harness regularly with no problem but on a recent long walk where there were lots of other dogs she pulled relentlessly hence the sores. It was a one off and I have since dispensed with the harness.

A friend advised this:
I have an aloe vera plant from which I cut off a stem and used the liquid from this.
it seems to be healing very quickly.

sudocrem worked wonders for a neighbours rehomed dogs sores, it was quite bad but now has a lovely coat.

Coconut oil is very kind on sores as long as there's no infection.
