Tilly may have to have a ga tomorrow and I know she must not have any food tonight. What about water? Do I need to pick her water bowl up?

Thanks, Bernie. They didn't give me an instruction sheet and I can't remember what was said.
Yilly, when our dog ( bow ) had a ga last November the vet said that she would be ok to have a small amount of water in the morning.
Hi Tilly, if GA is in the morning, normally no food after 8pm then no water after 8am (that's what we had to do a couple of months ago before the hounds xrays/ op)
Hope all is ok with both you and Tilly x
Hi Tilly. yes water is ok for your dog before surgery. I hope it all goes ok. let us know xx
My vet always say no food after six the previous evening. I hope that she gets on okay.

So if I pick the water bowl up before I go to bed that should be ok?
I was told not to restrict water intake.
I was told that no food after 8pm the night before and ok to have water in the morning
I was told to pick the bowl up at midnight but I was checking my dog in at 08.30 in the morning. This was 2 years ago.
water bowl I mean
Mine goes in on Tuesday for a GA Tilly and his sheet says "nothing to eat from 8pm the night before admission. Allow access to water until 7am on the morning of admission. Please ensure dog has been toileted before admission."
That's from the horse's mouth.
I was told no food from 9pm and no water from 9am.
Every vet has their own recommendations, but most stick to allowing the animal access to water for 2 hours before surgery maximum, to reduce the chance of them vomiting.
So Tilly, that should be fine, or you could pick the bowl up as soon as you wake up (before 8am) so that she can have a bit during the night if she needs. all the best x
She can have water in the morning but not after 8 am, my dog has just had an operation and that was what I was told about water. Good luck hope all is okay.
My dog is going in at 0830 hours hence a 0700 hours cut off for water.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll err on the side of caution and pick the bowl up before I go to bed. Last time she had a GA about six weeks ago, she stopped breathing and vomited and they had to abandon the whole thing after resuscitating her.

I hope for a better outcome tomorrow.
Hope things go well tomorrow, best of luck to you and Tilly.
IMO - no food after 4pm on day before op - pick up the water bowl when you get up on day of op and all will be will be well. No need to cross fingers Tilly it will be fine.x
Good luck tomorrow, Tilly, I'm sure all will go well xxx
