Cat Going On Holiday

Are cats as adaptable as dogs, as far as leaving them at someone else's house for a couple of days while I go on holiday? Do they settle easily in a different environment ?

I might well leave a dog at someone else's house for a short period of time. but i certainly would NOT leave a cat in someone else,s home.

Cats are more territory conscious than dogs, which are more connected to their owners. If the minder is a neighbour or better still if someone house sits, it will hardly matter to the cat as it will still have its own territory.
It all depends on the circumstances.

How laid back is your cat ? Personally I wouldn't be happy leaving Ziggi with a complete stranger (to him) ...I'm having enough trouble coming to terms with him going into a cattery but at least I know he'll be safe.

If as jan says, your guy sleeps 24/7 then you might get away with it...good luck

I wouldn't leave a cat. They don't need much so I'd get someone to come round make sure they have food/clean water/clean litter tray. And have a stroke if the cats allow it.

I had a friend who popped round to mine twice a day (morning and evening) to feed, water and open my door to let her in and out the house. Don't think the cat noticed we were missing to be honest, she'd notice a biscuit missing from her bowl, but not us, her owners.

cats are territorial, if its only for a few days they'll get very stressed. Can you get someone to look in on him/her?

I agree with [almost] all of the previous replies - i would never leave a cat in a strnagers house. So many times this has resulted in the cat escaping and trying to get home, then it gets lost and becomes a stray - or worse still a road accident victim.

I wouldn't leave my cats in someone else's house, it wouldn't work at all. They are too territorial and need their OWN space. A friend comes in anf feeds my guys when we're away.

Cats are much happier at home. My ole cat for 20 yrs never left my house.
I start in the morning, feeding next door neighbours cat for 9 nights while she is in Devon with her 3 dogs in a cottage. (Three cats) No problem.
