and this got me thinking are Pitbulls and Staffies the worst of the worst? I remember seeing a vid where a rottweiler was with a few other dogs including a small one when it just grabbed it in it's mouth with no barking or snarling but this is the only instant I've seen of a rottweiler doing this.
When I was younger I used to get chased and attacked by Jack Russel dogs quite often but this breed is hardly a killer to a grown child/adult.
So in your opinion which dog in your opinion is the most vicious, violent and unpredictable breed?
( I'm not talking about unruly owners just breeds and mixes of breeds )

Raw subject because tonight I walked our multi-breed terrier and met 2 ladies with dogs. My (3 yr old) dog has been attacked by bigger dogs in the past and so now meets any new encounter with a nip before settling down to play. I'm at a loss to know why, when the second lady's dog (a nice, cross-bred labrador) came to sniff at him Tyke suddenly attacked her (dog) and fastened onto her tail in true terrier fashion. In the end no harm was done, apart to nerves, but I think that I now have to buy a muzzle. Why has he changed? Don't blame me, please, I am an experienced, long-term dog owner and have trained him to heel etc... He is a rescue dog and had 1 year going through goodness knows what.
I suppose my answer is that any dog can change - but collies are likely to nip because that is how they herd sheep and terriers are unpredictable.

As has been said, any and every dog has the potential.
My uncle had a Corgi and it was the nastiest little *** of a dog I've ever known.
I was also bitten by an Afghan hound when doing my paper round as a kid.
My springer spaniel was as daft as a brush except when he used to go in the garden and install himself under the conifers. He would be quite aggressive when I used to try and coax him out and I often had to resort to putting a broom hundle under his collar and hauling him out that way. It was as if he literally had a split personality.

I also agree Woofgang, it annoys me when people say that some people behave like animals. most animals are very honest and just do what they need to do to survive, not for fun or profit or pure aggression!
and when people say my dogs are "human like" I correct them and tell them that such a statement is a great injustice to my hounds!

So much more than just the breed needs to be examined in cases like these. If the dog was indeed one of the banned breeds then the owner needs to be prosecuted for having it I am against Breed Specific Legislation as any dog can be aggressive if not treated right, exercised enough and trained properly and even with all that in place no dog should be left with any young child even if you consider them safe as you never know what might set it off. Sadly all of those with dogs will now endure the anti dog vitriol from many quarters even though our dogs are well looked after and not dangerous under normal circumstances. As for the person calling for a dog licence, how would this have helped - would you shout at the dog and tell it to stop attacking because you have a licence for it?
There's a yappy little yorkie a few doors away from me and it goes out into the garden and barks., well it doesn't . It just sort of yips. It's VERY repetitive YIP YIP YIP YIP at all the cats and foxes in the area and if a neighbour goes into their garden...omg, all h**l breaks loose. It's a vile little thing, and I am a dog lover. Actually, I'd like to kick the owner into touch !!BTW, I LOVE Jack Russells and Border terriers. I hate bulldogs and Rottys.
