Grasshoppers And Crickets

Growing up in Torquay in there were always grasshoppers and crickets on the lawn on a summer's evening. Have lived in the Manchester area for years now and have never seen or heard one. Do they only live in the South or have they disappeared altogether?

There are plenty of grasshoppers in Manchester but there is so much rain it's difficult to rub their legs together when wearing wellington boots.

When I was a child growing up in the 60's and 70's they were everywhere, especially in our large garden, but I haven't heard them in years now and I think the last time I did was about 15 years ago sadly - pesticides ??

I now live in Sussex and haven't seen or heard them for years. I hope they've not disappeared forever.
