A shot in the dark I know but my family are desperately trying to find a temporary home for my daughters partners dog due to a change in his living arrangements. The dog is a 5 year old boxer cross mastiff, very friendly/affectionate and good with children and other dogs. Daughters partner has had to move to Essex ( new job ) and into our home and unable to have his dog at our house. Arrangement will be temporary as new job means once settled will be renting/buying house of his own and then dog can be reunited with owner again. All food, vets bills, jabs etc will be paid for and if local enough can visit and walk etc. Only reason dog cannot be with us is that we have x 2 cats and he has never lived with cats before so not wanting to take any risks. Any ideas or solutions greatly received. Thanks in advance

Might be worth seeing if the cinnamon trust has anyone local. Or maybe you could afford one of theses dogsitting service where the dog lives in the sitters home?
I agree try shelters, RSPCA etc and vets for contacts. I believe quite a few people foster dogs, someone in my family is doing it at the moment.

We have tried a few local kennels but it is too expensive, local shelter not taking dogs on a temporary basis. We seem to have exhausted all ideas and he really doesn't want to have to part with him permanently as he is like his ' baby '.

Local vet might be a good idea, they may know people who foster dogs
Can't a member of the family help at all? Or friends?

We have exhausted all avenues, family and friends all unable to help to due differing reasons. Have asked work colleagues too, I know that it is a very big ask. I think maybe a visit to the vet tomorrow is the next step
Try this site, they have foster homes for dogs across the country

Otherwise you could try putting a plea on the facebook page of your local paper. They have all sorts on ours.
Cat test him. Get him on a lead and introduce him to your cats. I run a rescue and rehabilitation and have had to do this on numerous occasions. The vets might know someone who can look after your daughters partners dog however the chances are they will suggest kennelling. I disagree with kennelling for a long period of time (more than 2 weeks).
There are at least 4 'dog sitting/walking' services in my small town and I know at least 2 of them offer 'holiday care' for dogs at the owners home.
I know one of the people who do this quite well and he has had dogs for over a month at a time due to owners being away on a long holiday or business trip.
Also, having recently had to arrange cattery for my cats, the cost of private kennels is phenomenal. A local one to me charges £15 a day for a dog and you have to provide your own food!
^^ I meant at the dog sitters home , not at the dog owners home.
Prudie: It looks like the kennels were trying to bend you over. Unless you live in London!

^^ yes Price of Kennels for a dog is not much less than a hotel for the owner.
yes, 15 pounds per day per dog here too.
How actual temporary will it be?
Where do you live, my daughter fosters dogs but in N. Ireland
^^ £15 that's cheap, ones near here are £35 to £50 a day.
