I came home today to find my 12yr old lab had had diarrhea and was covered in poop. She occasionally get this as she cant control her movements as well as she used to. She is always very embarrassed by this as she's a mammys girl and hates to do anything wrong. When cleaning her up i noticed an abscess about the size of a 20p on her bum. She had one in the same place on the other side a few years ago which went by itself. I hadn't noticed until i found blood on the floor and checked her. I seem to remember she also was a bit loose then as well. Could the two be linked? Could the abscess cause the diarrhea?

I'm not a vet, but would have thought it was probably the other way round, she probably has the abscess cause the diarrhea has made it a bit raw, like I say not a vet though.
If the abcess is wheeping with puss or mucus, it could be infecting her and therefore be causing the diarrhea. The two may be completely unrelated, or it could be that she has irritated her skin with the diarrhea. If she persists with either the sore or the diarrhea you should take her to the vet. 12 isn't you for lab and there may be something underlying.
Hope this helps
