no, i dont think that it is illegal to have certain monkeys here in the uk.
im not sure what sort you can have though? i think you would have to have a proper search through the internet to learn more about the subject, or go to your local vets or pet shop and ask them, they might know.
hope this helps, and good luck!!

Hi,I used to be a zoo keeper and monkeys do NOT make good pets. To keep a monkey you need a wild animal licence, you have to build an enclosure of a certain standard and will have it inspected. This is a very expensive procedure. Then you have to think about keeping more than one, monkeys are highly sociable creatures. Then there's diet to consider, vitamins, minerals, variety. Then how do you keep your monkey active and mentally stimulated? As already written monkeys can be aggresive, they have big, sharp teeth and know how to use them,I know!! They are intelligent and you have to understand their behaviour, like knowing that looking them in the eye is a threat and your likely to get a whack or a bite. Sorry this is long but I get so angry when people want to keep wild animals as pets because they look cute in a zoo or on tv,what about considering what a misearable exsistence you will be providing for that poor animal?
Hi
Please click on the following site www.monkeyworld.co.uk
you can adopt a primate for only 25.00!!!!!
This rescue centre is ran by Jim and Alison Cronin they are always in need of donations, so dont waste your money on a monkey that you will tire of, just adopt a primate and you also get free entry into monkeyworld for 12 months!!!
Also check out the animal planet as there is a series on weekdays 7.30pm
