there is a tom cat in the vicinity, an entire male with a name collar. he's not even a 'breed' (so unlikely kept for breeding). i've had to take my neutered male to the vets twice now, after wounds have got infected. he's currently got a gash across his face, narrowly missing his eye and all his fur is strewn across our alleyway. im so upset and angry. is there anything i can do? i think its really irresponsible to unleash an owned entire male on the neighbourhood. is it my thinking that is at fault?

I think its unreasonable to allow any cat to wander freely on other people's property...... If the cat is collared can you talk to his owner?

I know that is the right thing to do, i just dont think I will get a good hearing. Was rather hoping I could kidnap it and take it to be neutered myself!

and i have caught them fighting several times and the cheeky ###### keeps coming to our place for more fighting :-(
Chroist, mandi, I'm not going out with you if a castration is imminent!
I'm with you on the kidnap and neuter front, mandimoo.
I've actually done it twice.
Was it a failure the first time The Chair. ? ;-)
well if its microchipped, when you take it to the vets, you will get caught out.
If you kidnapped my cat and got his balls removed I would be very angry.

But if my cat was regularly being beaten up I would be very tempted to deal with the big thug. My main concern would be getting found.

There is no legal way to solve this situation.

I really wish that I could help you.
well the legal start is to go and talk to the owner....
Keep a squirty bottle of water handy and give it a wetting every time you see it.If that doesn't work a .410 is a more permanent solution.
I feel really sorry for your poor cat. A neighbour of mine had a lovely little friendly female and a larger male cat from further up the street kept attacking her and making her life a misery. The neighbour's boyfriend ambushed it one night and gave it a good hiding as it was about to attack the little cat, it never attacked her again! I have to add, I wouldn't normally agree with this, but drastic action was needed as we were sure the little one was going to be killed by it eventually. But I could never do it myself.

yep, been there, done that. although at the time we believed the tom to be a stray, it was only after the deed was done did we meet the owners......
I think squirting it with water is a good suggestion.
Cats are bullies and if this brute has not been castrated he will be a big bruiser. Some people with male animals fail to understand that although their cat won't get pregnant they will father kittens, fight, bully, fight and then impregnate another poor lady cat.

If he has owners try and approach them. The water method of deterring it is okay when you are around but your cat might want to go out to play with his pals without taking his mum along too.

The good news is that if you boy is getting wounded in his front areas it means that he is fighting back. If all the wounds were on his bum area it would mean that he was running for cover.

My boy cat gets beaten up by his sister - less so now that they are getting older. We were forever at the vet, but he has learned how to out-run her.

Well,i too would "kidnap"this terror and get him neutered!this would also for his own good.I just cannot understand why so-called owners don't get their cats neutered, all mine have been rescues,so i do call myself a cat lover.x
