A badger gets in my garden at night and digs up earth. I am worried that my year old cat could catch something from it.

It is possible that your cat could get TB from an infected badger but he is far more likely to get it from an infected vole. 187 cats were infected in one year so the risks are very low, but something to be aware of.

I wouldn't worry about it

Is there a humane way to keep it out of the garden? We can see where it comes under the fence.
You can try, and the sooner the better, but of course they dig and climb.
Remember badgers are protected and you can't disturb their setts.
When we asked our local council what we could do to deter badgers, they helpfully suggested 'depriving them of their food source i.e. worms'.

That ^^^ will do the garden a lot of good!

Apparently they dont like the smell of human urine. I will leave this to your imagination and let you know the result ...
We had one a few years ago . The vet said our dog wouldn't catch anything .It wandered around the garden even if I was out there . The RSPCA did come out because it got stuck behind a shed. We had new fences put up and the neighbours each side and it hasn't come back since. Made a right mess of the garden but a beautiful creature

/they dig and climb./ I once watched a badger trying to climb some square mesh stock fencing....it failed comically.
Well, I certainly didn't put this badger on my fence
