House spiders

I think we have a mouse living in our walls which we hear at night. Then it occured to me maybe its a massive spider, because what actually stops them growing so big. So could someone please tell me how long they live a how big they can get.

I don't know how long spiders live, different species have different life spans, but the one thing I can say, is, you will never hear a spider, if its a mouse, you should see signs, behind furniture etc.

Sorry chessman but when I lived in Eastbourne we did hear a spider running around at night, it was massive and my Dad killed it.

I believe that the common house spider can grow to the size of a small cat, and likes to sneak up on people while they're watching TV. I'd watch out ;)

Okay, that might be a lie, but the biggest one I ever saw had a legspan of about a beermat in size. Disgusting.
