A couple of hours ago we had to take Eddie, our great big Dobie Dog to our Vets to be PTS. Age caught up with him, his back end has been a bit wobbly for a while now, he was a big lad 31" at the shoulder and 54kgs, and his back legs just went from under him fortunately in the garden not out for a walk.
We've had him for just over 11 years since he was 8 weeks old and couldn't have asked for a nicer Dog, he will be sadly missed. First time we've been without a Dog for about 25 years, it's going to be strange.
When the time is right we will be doing the rounds of the local rescues there will be a suitable hound (or two) out there somewhere for us I'm sure.

Thanks,
Patsy we lost our Dobie b.i.t.c.h last August, if she was looking out for him he'll be back under the paw already, but at least he'll have company.
Aww, bet he's enjoying it already! x
Baldric, this is no help at all but two weeks ago, I was half asleep in bed when I heard my German Shepherd come up the stairs, into the bedroom and flop down by the side of the bed, with a sigh.

I leaned over to stroke her but she's been dead for at least eighteen months and wasn't there.

You never lose them.

Know where you're coming from Tilly.
so sorry Balders, it never gets easier.
Sorry to hear that. I'd guess that both your dogs had good lives with you.

Thanks,
we did our best for them Sandy, they came first.
So sorry, been there more than once. It is probably the bravest thing you have to do in life and you know you will suffer for it. You are quite right, grieve and give it time - and you know you did the right thing by Big Eddie. x
Hell Baldric, you have had to bear this twice now in quick succession. Gotta be hard on you both. Our hound gets less able by the month but is still a treasure. We talk fleetingly about the obvious and pay the vet bills ungrudgingly, but dread the time. Move into your new home and use the space that we all know you will have allocated for a new pal when you are ready.
Sorry to hear your news Baldric it's never easy when you lose a furry friend,I'm sure when you're ready you'll find a new friend to replace him. It's four years this month that we lost Max and we still miss him but unfortunately circumstances prevent us repacing him.
So sorry to hear your news Baldric, may Eddie have a peaceful new life with all the other dogs that have gone before.
