What pooped in my garden?

This morning I found mystery feces on my patio and I have no idea who/what did the deed. Its quite small - 2 bits, one 1" long, the other 1/2", about a quarter inch wide. Way too small for a cat. I imagine a rat's would be like mouse's but on steroids and its not like that. I would guess too small for a fox? Could it be hedgehog <hopefull look>?

To make that clearer since the site had its way with my post, one bit was 1 inch long by 1 quarter inch wide , the other 1 half inch long by 1 quater inch wide. Thanks to any and all for an ID! :-)

What was the smell like?

Could be a toad - their droppings are surprisingly large.   Try dissolving it in water and then you can see what the food is - bones or insect wing cases.

Thanks to all for your replies. The color is dark brown with white flecks in it, pretty solid looking. I think I'll give the smell test a miss, thank you (that pegged the euch factor meter!) :-)

Ihad the same and after some patient observation, discovered that the faeces belonged to a large frog. Don't kill it, it's just after the slugs. Either that or you've got a hell of a rat!

I think we may have solved the mystery - our neighbour has reported a hedgehog has moved into his yard. I've had no sightings but our fence is no block for a wee hedgehog. :-)
