well well done silliemillie for putting the animal's needs before your own - just a suggestion (if you don't mind!) is there maybe someone who has a gentle dog you could 'borrow' for a few hours occasionally? You obviously love them and it seems such a shame for you not to have some contact with an animal.
We feel it's now or never, and weighing everything up, now seems the absolute right time. If we leave it much longer we will be too old to give a pup what it needs.
You can have a virtual share in ours silliemillie. We recently dog sat a border terrier and it reminded us how lovely it is to have a dog around, they give so much and ask so little don't they?
Both breeds in the mix suffer from inherited conditions so dont be fooled by a breeder who tells you they are healthier than pure breeds and charge more. Make sure parents are both health tested for eyes (pra) hips and check parents for temperament. Grooming needs doing daily as non shedding does not equate to non grooming - the coat will mat if not kept brushed and clipped regularly - about £50 every six weeks or so. Depending on whether the cocker parent is from working lines they can be very active and hyper if not given loads of exercise and training from the beginning. Good luck.
