Where are the ordinary english garden snails to be found at the moment?

Are they in snailbernation or something?

I've been searching for them since my previous post about relieving them of their lives and eating them but, god 'elp me, i haven't found a single one of the *******. lucky them.

but whereabouts are they? i want to eat them, you see.

Come to my garden - they have stuffed themselves on my dahlias and are now starting on the bulb shoots that are just emerging.

I don't use slug pellets because we have a lot of thrushes in the garden, but there are too many for even them to cope with.

Sorry trillipse, you can't eat them willy-nilly.  I would love you to eat mine but there's not many that are edible.  Stick to mussels, squid, frogs legs and french edible snails.
You can eat them but you have to purge them first.
Awful lot of rigmarole and frankly quite disgusting.

And if any have escaped from Shaneystar's and Ursula's gardens they are round at my place, feasting off the remains of the hosta leaves and my lettuces and hiding during the daytime in all sorts of nooks & crannies.   If you pop out in the dark with a torch you will probably find them but with all the rigmarole of purging them first with bran, etc. to clean them you'd have to be desperately hungry to eat them. The French variety feel like chewing rubber and I doubt whether ours are much different.  Those I find I put out in the middle of my lawn to give the thrushes a treat.
They are all creeping their way up my walls and widnows and trying to get into my house.  Methinks we're in for a cold winter!
