Colicky horse.

Yesterday morning my horse went down with colic. I gave him a jab of the usual muti and he responded. Then by late after noon he was down again so I took him down to the vet who checked him and said it was spasmodic colic and gave him another jab. I left him in hospital over night and ollected him bout 3pm only to have him go down agin at 5pm. I have given him another jab but dont really know what to do next any ideas.

Spasmodic colic is, as the name implies, spasms in the intestinal tract. It usually responds to treatment quite well. Give it a little time... if the horse begins rolling, kicking at his stomach, getting up and down often or standing stretched out and curling his upper lip, call the vet again. You might want to inspect his feed for the cause. Look primarily for the quality of any hay being fed, especially moldy or weedy hay. Limit his intake of grain until he gets better. Keep the horse supplied with fresh water and, if he will respond, walk him short distances. Good luck!
