How do I stop my 7 month old puppy picking up rubbish, when I walk him he picks up tissues, plastic bottles, bits of paper, I do try to pull him away if I see it before he does, but its like we are zig zagging along to avoid any rubbish.

Distractions pulling on the lead will not stop him. Try a squeaky toy when he approaches rubbish

Hi Fruitsalad, it might be the best time to enforce the ' leave' command. Keep some very tiny treats in your spare hand/ pocket. When approaching something you don't want pup to investigate, say ' leave' when you have passed reward pup with treat. I know it sounds easy, It isn't ! Your dog is learning and his world is full of beautiful aromas ! Good luck.

You can get a noise distraction device that you can simply activate that will distract him

be careful with noise distractions...many of them don't distract, they punish. If you want to use a noise distractor then use something pup likes, like a squeaky toy.

I say leave every time he heads toward the rubbish, but he's not taking much notice of that, but I will try the sweaky toy.

Yes. When my daughter got her black Lab puppy back in February and I was talking to her on the phone while she was out with him, every other word was..."Leave It" then "Good Boy"

He is so good now and is 9 months old.
