(A comprehension question rather than a general knowledge one, then, PastaFreak. Can barely distinguish among many of my surrogate grand/great a grandchildren without resort to the crudest of sexual stereotypes.)

Have recorded them all, but yet to watch. Encouraged by your reviews, but not surprised that DA has impressed again.

I was fascinated by the write-ups on Sunday. Painted wolves, or even the plain variety, in Africa(?) news to me. First news of wolves in the dark continent. Did watch a super documentary on wild dogs in (I think South Africa) a few years ago.

It was more recognisable to me as a wild dog.

Thank you, Mamya. The pictures posted in Pasta's OP reminded me of the quite small dogs (and I think they were referred to as "hunting dogs") in the documentary I mentioned.

Has had the name Cape Hunting Dog as long as both I and Oh have known about them, and he lived in South Africa for years.

I find that calling something a 'painted wolf' probably has more appeal than the above but it can get confusing.

The Cape Hunting Dog is a subspecies, but I do agree 'Painted Wolf' does sound fancier.
