Welcome Tambo :-)
I know the idea of maggots in the kitchen is not a nice one but given a suitable escape proof container they really would help. Robins love them.
I used to have a "tame" Robin that would eat my unused fishing maggots from my hand eventually. They are very human trusting birds, if you go down maggot route, a small bait box will do, or get some dried meal worms, robins will be just as delighted.

they will get cheese & left overs. No way am I supplying maggots!
OK Tambo, Im sure daddy Robin is used to foraging for food in the wild anyway, let alone have your entire kitchen at his disposal?
OMG - just reading this thread gives me the creeps as I'm terrified of birds, no matter how big or how small. I particularly hate robins who have a habit of landing within 2 feet of me when I'm gardening. If I had them nesting in the house I'd have to move out.

^^ :-(
Tambo they are not maggots they are mealworms, a whole different thing. The Robins will love them, and they will give the babies moisture which they need to stay alive. They are cheap, don't smell, can live in your fridge in a plastic container or if you buy from my link you can keep them in the packaging they arrive in. Much cheaper than buying from a pet shop.

no comments on my photo - hast thou lost interest? If so I wont bother further.
Wow, how lovely - well done Mrs Robin and you Tambo x
Question Author
thanx mamya, robin collects her own food & ignores my worms
Lovely aren’t you lucky. My swallows were back in Feb and the first lot are now flying. One unfortunately fell out of the nest. Will probably have two more sets of babies. Also heard first cuckoo today a bit late for southern Portugal
Question Author
Our swallows havent arrived yet. They nest in barns here & when fledged they cover the telephone cable, swinging & dive bombing.
we don't get swallows or swifts any more here....we used to, its very sad. Lovely to see your little family doing so well. I have got several robins who come to my feeders, they are all different little characters. I have wrens in the garden too but rarely see them.
