Mysterious plant....

At work a guy had a strange squidgee stress ball. He got very stressed over time and the ball burst, inside it we found lots of tiny seeds. We thought it would be a laugh to plant them. They grew. We now have some strange looking climbing plant, description: Spindly stem (bit like cress thickness) LONG 10cm and growing Small 3mm gondalla shaped leaves all along the stem about every 2mm Light green in colour. What is this plant? Any ideas?

It is more likely to be something like millet or flax - something edible at any rate - Ferns reproduce by spores so would be an unlikely candidate

Interesting so far... The plant is fairly old now >4-6 weeks and only seems to be getting longer rather than maturing in any other way. It's a straggly plant - mislead in my initial question, sorry, so the 10cm is when a straggle is straightened out. I guess it may be a climber or a creeper. We planted many seeds and they are all growing in a pot in a bit of a tangle. There is no obvious seed head.

Perhaps you could take it to a local plant nursery (just a clipping if you don't want to take the whole pot). Even if they can't identify it, they should be able to suggest what it's related to. Once you have that info, a google search might give you some pictures to compare it with. Good luck.

As the squidgee ball was probably made in a foreign country I would think that, rather than take the plant to the local nursery, the best place to take it would be the Customs/Quarantine people to make sure it isn't a noxious weed! Look what happened in Australia when someone released half a dozen rabbits for a bit of fun!! Seriously, any accidentally introduced (however innocently) non-indigenous flora or fauna can have a devastating effect on a countrys agricultural industry.
