Regarding Sale Of A Puppy

my daughter has just purchased a bulldog puppy.the pup is k.c. registered and when she collected it the seller gave her some eye drops because he said the dog had a touch of conjunctivitis.when she brought the dog home she took it to the vet to have it chechecked and the vet told them the pup was either blind or going blind and would probably have to lose an eye.my daughter contacted the seller who became abusive and refused to accept the return of the dog.what can my daughter do to either exchange the dog or get her money returned.

Thank you for coming back to us David. I didn't think she would get insurance once it was known there was a problem with its eye and if there is a dog that needs insurance it's this one. Trading Standards looks like your best bet and really hope your daughter is successful. Somebody should be checking this breeder out though or they will just continue to churn out puppies with these awful health problems. I look forward to hearing a positive result David.
Just to add for anyone thinking of getting a BD, Bulldog Rescue is a good place to go to get a healthy dog as they are all checked out, although they do have a waiting list last time I looked.

I feel very angry as a dog lover reading this,if you return the puppy to this *** house it will be put down,he should not be allowed to have dogs,as for the kennel club wanting nothing to with this shame on them. I have a gamekeeper friend who would have nothing to do with the kennel club,,now I understand why.

As I said above the Kennel Club cannot get involved, unless there is a court case and the breeder is prosecuted - then they could prevent them from registering dogs (or showing if they happen to be show people which I very much doubt). Unfortunately anyone with a KC registered *** can register puppies if they mate it to a KC registered dog - to have any control over this would be out of the KC's jurisdiction. It is up to people to check the breeders are genuine before parting with any cash and breed clubs are the way to go. Another thing some breeders of popular breeds are doing in breeding 'rare' colours (which are not actually accepted by the KC) then charging a lot more money. Sadly many of these are not actually purebred and are crossed to produce the strange colours some people seem keen to get. The KC gives a list of accepted colours which people should check out before planning to buy one. For example there is no such thing as a lilac bulldog - so it must have been crossed with something else.

regarding the puppy belonging to my daughter.she is keeping the puppy after realising if she returned it the breeder would probably have it put down. the delay in my response is that the breeders have been away on holiday (or so we have been led to believe) my daughter intends to make an offer to the breeder that if the dog requires an operation on its eye that my daughter and the breeder split the cost of the operation. if the breeder refuses she intends to take the matter to court.

I am glad that she is keeping the puppy. It would seem that the breeder is one that should be avoided. They see puppies only as items to sell.

I hope that she and her puppy are happy together.

I do not and never will understand anybody paying such an amount for a dog when there are 1000s in sanctuaries everywhere who could give you so much unconditional love.
