I adopted a cat today. She’s been here since midday, and went to find a hidey hole almost straightaway. . We didn’t know where she was all day but have just found her shaking under a pile of cardboard boxes.
She’s had nothing to eat or drink since she got here. Should I leave her where she is until she gets her confidence to come out and eat, or try to entice her out?
She’s 9 years old and didn’t have a great start in life. Thanks for any advice.
A very good start to your life as a servant/slave.
I was adopted by my two when they were 18 months old. Brother and Sister.
Day one - Princess Merlin attacked me and bit me nine times on the hand. I didn't take it seriously (just a little cat) and within days I had to spend about 24 hours in the hospital to get IV antibiotics to fix and infection.
She attacked me a few times over the years, but not just me - anyone who annoyed her.
Does your new pal have a name? I hope that you both have many years together. ♥
Lovely news! She must have sensed in you someone she could really trust, a terrified cat would never go so quickly to you otherwise x Hope it all goes well from here:-)
Well done clover. The poor wee thing has obviously had a traumatic time of it. Patience is the way to go. It may take some time to fully win her trust, but it looks like you're well on the way.
Thank you all for your kind words.
She doesn’t feel totally settled yet, but she seems happier.
She hasn’t slept in the igloo-type bed I bought yet, or eaten much. She seems to be quite scared of men.
But we’re hopeful she’ll settle in soon.
Is she to be an indoor cat or and out and about one? There are valid reasons for each. My two have always been indoor cats but Frankie tends to be a clingy mummy's boy. Going to the bathroom on my own is a rare treat.
Lovely to hear this Clover. My experience with a cat that has been badly treated is that when treated kindly they become so very loving and show their gratitude. I wish you both many happy years together.
I bought new beds and furry material for my two last year, they are unused. Frankie is lying in his cardboard box just now. It is impossible to win with such a contrary little monster.
Frankie has decided not to sleep in the bed with me - he now sleeps on me instead,
