Dog Walks

Do you stick to a routine, when taking your dog out for the toilet or do you let him/her let you know when they need to go? My dog seems to be getting lazy hes nearly 3 I take him for a long walk in the morning, then the rest of the day he just wants to go a short distance, does his business looks at me turns round and wants to go back home, he wont do his business in the garden either.

Some dogs dont like rain or snow or cold.

Don't worry unless he gets fat or seems unwell.

My daughter’s dog has two walks a day but always uses the garden as a toilet.

Zac always walks off the lead (unless he’s in a field with livestock). He generally tells me where he wants to go but at 16, he’s slowing down a lot.

I think all dogs are different. However, all mine have been the same.

Garden first thing, wee and poo.
Walk later, wee and poo.
Garden, wee.
Walk, wee and poo.
Last thing at night, garden and wee.

They do what they do.

2 to 3 walks a day for Sally. Times have varied according to my work hours. Now, as she's getting very...very slow...it's one walk when she wants it, the rest is just downstairs for a quick wee/poo

I have a routine, long walk in the morning to park and shorter walk in the evening. If I have to take her for a shorter walk in the morning because I am going out at lunch, I will take her out again for a quick walk when I get back. She very, very rarely does anything in the garden.

Mine have a long walk in the morning and a shorter one later on... sometimes varies, depending. And are in and out of the garden all day. They do seem to prefer to "go" on walks. But as long as it is outside, I am not bothered:-)

Maybe give your dog a treat if he does use the garden... sometimes they can be "too" toilet-trained and are uncomfortable going in their own garden x

My old dog only went in the garden if it was necessary, like in the middle of the night and he had stomach problems. He’d wee out there though

Long walk over fields and woods once a day (about an hour or sometimes longer) time to suit the weather and daylight. Garden for the rest of the day. No routine at all. She lets us know if she wants to go inbetween. Always let out before hubby goes to bed - usually about 1.00am ish.

Lola is quite small for her breed( Cockapoo) one early and one early evening one, she won’t poo on concrete or even wee,it has to be grass

We trained our dog to do wees and poos in the garden by attaching his lead to his collar (normally his lead is attached to his harness for walks) and giving him a small treat when he performed.
He knows now to do either or both in our garden, or anyones garden who we visit, when we put his lead on and take him out.
He does lots of scent marking wees on a walk, and more often than not a poo or two too, especially on his long morning walk.
He will let us know if he needs to go out for a wee or poo by sitting in front of us and staring.
Our dog is just three.

That’s why we started putting ours on a lead Bobbi, he wouldn’t do anything on concrete or paving, and one of our relatives who we stay with regularly only has a paved back garden. He’ll now do his business anywhere if his lead is attached to his collar and we say ‘good boy, hurry up’. And he still gets a treat which I think is the incentive.

Arh Nellie ,what colour is she? I love the breed,she was last to be born out of a litter of 8 and is all black

She's all black Bobbi with a tiny bit of grey under her chin. Looks more poodly than spaniel. Really loving and adorable. We had her at one year old. She's now two and a half.
