The time has come to give it a go.
He’s a large size cockapoo, very lively, three years old.
We intend to bath him in the garden on the warmest day next week.

Is it warm enough outside? I do mine in the bath.
Do it in the bath, much easier to rinse off and nice warm water

Don’t baths get scratched when you bath a dog in them?
Our dog a shower in the shower cubicle or bath with luke warm water with us holding the shower head. We have never bathed any of our dogs outside.
Spread peanut butter on one end of the bath and it will at least give you the chance to get the shampoo on!
Mine isn't, vagus. They seem to stand still in there.
Vagus. if you are worried about scratching just put a towel in for the dog to stand on, or one of those non slip plastic mats made especially for the bath.
I have tried showering them, but got wetter than they did :-)

Hmm, might have to review our bathing plans.
Do you all think it’s too cold to bath him outside then? Even if we used warm water and lots of towels to dry him??
where are you ..it's going to be sunny all day sunday 18deg
Please remember to thoroughly brush your dog before bathing or else you will end up with a matted mess that you cannot shift. If the coat is getting thick get some pet clippers and give it a go at clipping yourself or else with the warm weather he will be getting very hot. Make sure you rinse all the shampoo out - and a very good tip is to hold the dog round the neck while wetting and leave the head till last or else he will want to shake all over you - and hold a towel over him when you have finished as he will definitely shake then!
Personally, I have only done that when it is unbearably hot, with a paddling pool.

Roslyn, yes, it’s supposed to be that temp here on Sunday, and warming up over the next week, which is why we thought it’s a good opportunity to bath him outside.

Lankeela, would you bath a dog outside in the current temperature?
We have a lively large Cairn and, apart from shaking before you can get a towel on him, we get no problems washing him in the shower. Tea Tree shampoo strongly recommended for a nice smell and no itchy or dry skin issues.
Place a large bath towel in the bottom of the bath to avoid scratching it. However I wouldn't be too concerned about bathing a dog in this weather - have you seen how many dogs like jumping into water even on the coldest days? As long as you have towels to get most of the water off then let him run around the garden to dry himself off then he'll be ok I'm sure.

I think we’re going out give it a go in the bath, having thought about it again.
I think it’ll be easier to contain him when he’s wet, and probably easier on us to get him thoroughly washed and rinsed.
We have a corner bath with a sort of seat moulded into it so one of us will get in and sit on that, holding him, while the other one uses the spray to wet, wash and rinse him.
Well, that’s the plan...
should work so long as he isn't reading this thread ...

Vagus,
"Well that's the plan" - the best laid plans of mice and men etc .....
Best of luck !
