Springer Or Cocker??
49 Answers
I think I can do more links separately, not sure if I can do short videos...
I have a rescue dog, given to me as a "cocker". She has had at least 3 homes in less than 3 years.... and we are not sure whether she may be a Springer.
Much bigger and heavier than a usual cocker.
Anyone have any guesses please?

Thanks :-). I have had her for 4 weeks now, as a "cocker", but I'm not convinced, and not sure the last people really knew.
I know the two breeds used to overlap, and there are similarities, but she seems so much more Springer-like to me. Fetching, digging, loves water and mud... just interested, really. 60 people on FB have said Springer so far xx

Could be, brainiac xx tilly, the first people made her so overweight, she actually got taken off them. The second people got her and got rid of her due to lockdown ending and they are out at work all day every day. I don't know of any other homes she may have had. All I care about, is that she is lovely natured, great with children and other dogs... which she is.
She is also a healthy weight now:-) xx

Bobbi, she settled down so quickly. My 3 others liked her straight away and she has got more confident by the day. She is now curled up on the settee, which she was too scared to try at first xx
Brainiac, I understand xx dogs are a big commitment, you have to be ready, but i hope you manage to get one soon xx

I'd say springer just on the one photo.
Most cockers are solid colour, although people have been breeding for parti-colourations and roans for some some time you hound has typical springer colours.
They are both from the same root anyway - cocker was the name for the smaller dogs used for flushing woodcock from undergrowth and springer was the name for the bigger dogs used for 'springing' pheasant etc from more open cover.
Size was bred with size and eventually two strains developed.
As Brainiac says, people have started breeding the two strains together again to get an all-round working characteristic.
