Can Squirrels Get Drunk By Only Eating Crab Apples?

Where would it get the fermented apples from? Think the poor thing is just trying to get out of a snowdrift.

Don't they start to decompose/ferment as soon as they leave the tree?
I mean the apples of course.

No they don't ferment immediately. They do ferment but not for a while after dropping off. If the apples freeze and thaw they will ferment faster as freezing bursts the cells and lets the juice run out. I suspect that is what happened here. the apples froze and femented.

I think that one is too steady on his feet to be drunk. They do play and do silly things.

Don't you need heat for fermentation? -it looks about minus 10C in that garden lol!
We have loads of crab apple trees around our farm -the sheep eat the windfalls but I've never seen any of them drunk.

APG no you don't need heat. it takes longer when its cold but the yeast activity still happens. You can raise bread in a fridge if you want it to prove overnight
