Designer Mongrels

My daft question of the week because I should know the answer.
If I breed two poodles I can be certain the puppies will be poodles.

If I breed two cockerpoos (as an example of a designer mongrel) what will I get? I don't the puppies will be cockerpoos

They are crossbreeds pure and simple. No amount of putting and F before their names will make them a purebred breed. New breeds are only developed after many years of careful crossing two breeds with records being kept and carefully planned matings taking place to ensure the future of the 'breed' once recognised is sustainable. By far the majority of these dogs are just two family pets put together and unless the breeder has a breeding programme that is carefully recorded it is doubtful many of them will be bred from in a planned way. There are also three different Poodle 'breeds' and depending on which one you cross with will make a difference to size and temperament. There are also people crossing different Spaniel breeds and still calling them designer names. I have no problem with people buying a crossbreed, what I do have a problem with is the breeders conning people into thinking they are healthier - a Poodle with PRA crossed with a Spaniel with PRA will produce puppies with PRA who will go blind. If you are going to breed then do the right thing and health test both parents. Do not try to tell me they are hypoallergenic and don't moult - if people are allergic it is to the dander not the coat and all dogs have that even hairless ones. Coats differ according to parents and some will be smooth coated and others will have a fluffy coat that knots and mats easily so people then have to pay £££s to have them shaved off. People are paying thousands of pounds for these dogs mostly untested yet you can buy a purebred, fully health tested dog of one of these breeds for half the price if you go to a reputable breeder. The biggest problem however is people crossing totally unsuitable breeds such as Newfoundlands and Collies, or Bernese Mountain Dogs and Rottweilers with no thought as to the original purpose for developing them.

I still don't really understand how mating two cockapoos results in cockapoo puppies.
A cocker spaniel and a poodle makes a cockapoo. Surely one grandparent's genes can come through stronger in the pups making them more spaniel than poodle or the other way round.

Whatever the reason is..hair or dander..my ‘allergic to dogs’ husband hasn’t had any problems at all with our cockerpoo. And we don’t get a house full of dog hair the way we did with our golden retriever.
Do people really think they’re a pure breed? I’m not sure the majority of folk who buy them do, I doubt the F makes anyone think so. It matters not anyway, they’re lovely dogs and, for us, worth every penny.

Calling people 'KC snobs' is just a way of people justifying breeding crosses and charging a fortune for something that should not be twice the price of a purebred. The KC actually register crossbreeds on their Activity Register but they do not give them made up names they are registered as crossbreeds. On further consideration to the initial question if they are bred down the generations they are mongrels because a crossbreed is a first cross between two distinct breeds.

Vagus plenty do think they are a breed, at Crufts we get people asking where to find the cockapoos, labradoodles, cavachons etc. They seem offended when we explain that they are not a recognised breed so don't have classes.

they'll be cokerpoos, all dogs are mongrels anyway, that's how the breeds evolved from a common ancestor. All this Crufts sheet is cobras.

Anyway I can't have a dog at the moment as I live in a flat. If I ever move I will get a Jack Russell or a Minipin or a Whippet!

A friend (he's dead now) used to breed miniature Manchester Terriers. They were absolutely tiny. He used to carry a pup around in his coat pocket.

Combining them = 0.5A+0.5B now if that is also done elsewhere we have another set of 0.5A+0.5B so now if the two combine we will have
0.25A+0.25B+0.25A+0.25B ;
2(0.25A) + 2(0.25B) multiply those out and we get
0.5A+0.5B - ie back were we started, thus the result of 2 cockapoos is a cockapoos. In effect the same configuration as a poodle + Poodle.
Now of course I have assumed half the generic material from both sides in each case, in reality one side or other may be favoured but the premise is valid.
