VERY VERY stinky trainers

no, not in the way you'd think. My son's trainers started smelling very strongly of cat wee after we'd had a caravan holiday this summer.

I am convinced that a wild animal of some sort has sprayed them!

My questions are, Is there a skunk type animal in this country that prduces a terrible smell?

How can i get rid of it? and, Why does it seem to be getting worse?!!

could have been a passing female Fox (vixen) doing some scent marking, if the trainers were left out.

You can usually get rid of the smell by covering the shoes in a good layer of something like parafin etc... and setting fire to them in a safe location.

In the summer, I left my shoes out on the patio because I had been wearing them in the garden and they got a little dirty.

Anyway I got up the next morning and found one of my shoes was the other side of the garden.

I reckon a fox thought it was a small animal and started running off with it, it wasn't until he realised it was not edible that he decided to drop it.

I agree with qapmoc best answer for them.

Stick them in the washing machine, I do, although I've never had vixen piddle on them, but it's worth a try.

Wash them in the washing machine and then put tea tree oil in them. Works for smelly trainers too and shoes. Couple of drops sprinkled inside does the trick.

i've washed them lots of times in the washer - with all sorts of things - but it just intensifies the smell!

I'm just going to throw them out, I think.

Do you think my insurance would pay out?! They were very expensive.
