Our lovely old Labrador ( 15) has'nt been eating for the past 2 days. She's only drinking small amounts of water which she then vomits up. She's also bringing up bile and last night lost control of her bladder. We cant get her to the vets until monday. Any help greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

I know it can be expensive but do you have an emergency vet to get some advice. Why does everything always seem to happen on the weekend? I hope it's not too serious in spite of your dogs age.
I really think you need to get her to a vet she sounds very bad if she cant keep water down she will become dehyrated and as you know no water is very bad! and will cause internal organ failure, if you can't get her to a vet then I'm sad to say you may lose her over the weekend unless she perks up of her accord which I hope she does! :-)
The police, RSPCA, PDSA etc. or try Yellow Pages will probably be able to put you in touch with an emergency vet service. It doesn't look good but I hope all will be well.

I would'nt hesitate to contact a vet .

This happened to one of my dogs once, the vet misdiagnosed it as a gastric problem and gave me some medication for him, which only made things worce.

The next day when i took him back to the vet they found he had a massive tumour on his liver .

I think you do best to find out for surre!

Best wishes..

Thank you all for your help. I've phoned PDSA,no help there. I then rang the RSPCA,just an anwering machine. I knew our vets would be closed but tried anyway..Joy! They have an emergency surgery tomorrow at 11am. In the meantime Im giving my old duchess water by syringe which so far she's kept down (Touch wood) .Thanks again you kind people. xx

Vets are obliged to have an out of hours service - although some don't run it themselves, they subscribe to a 'group' practice sharing the duties between several surgeries.. There is also a service called Vets Now, (which stands for night or weekend) which provide an out of hours service for vets in some cities, and they will give advice over the phone but they are rather expensive if you have to use them..

all vets must provide 24 hour cover im a nures who works at an emergency clinic and you must speak to someone asap, when you rang your own vets did it give you a telephone number of someone to contact in case of an emergency? if should have ring it even if you cant go they should have someone trained to give advise when you phone. Some practices offer an ambulance service if transport is a problem i know we do.

if shes keeping water down than thats good just tiny amounts often, could you collect a urine sample? if you could that will help the vet a lot . in view of her age they will prob want to do some bloods and see whats going on , she may even need to stay in and go on a drip depending on her results.

the pdsa do do 24hr clinics too but you have to be on housing benifits or council tax benifits and proof of id is also needed. rspca also have a 24hr number 07805555999 but im afraid there pretty crap and will prob just tell you to ring your own vet.

im sorry to say it prob will be expensive too, i know too well how expensive vets can be.

good luck and keep us all posted
