Mongrels are dogs of mixed breeding who have just been bred any old how and their antecedents not recorded. a lot of breeds of pedigree dog started as crossbreeds, eg the Doberman, perobably the Weimaraner, where people wanted specific attributes of more than one existing breed and bred those breeds together.
so these "new" hybrid dog producers are only doing what breeders have done before.
However as lankeela so rightly says, you have to think about what characteristics you want to fix and what you are prepared to lose, what inherent weaknesses there are in your breeds and be sure that you keep temperament and function uppermost in your plans, cute is not enough!!
Checked out the site - ugly little b******s aren't they? No two look the same, and what happens in the next generation? I.E. do they mate puggle to puggle, or do they mate back to either a pug or a beagle? In which case they will be one quarter and three quarters. How do you know how big they will grow - could be pug size, could be beagle? Still if you can get $1000 for them, I'm not surprised they are breeding them. Bet the puppy farmers love them. No registration fees, no comeback! No recognised health tests as they are not recognised breeds. Do they whelp ok, as pugs can have problems? What about breathing problems? And eyes?
And no. I don't know of any in this country. I spend most of my time trying to help people who want to buy a puppy of my breed find a reputable breeder who does all the necessary health checks and steer clear of the puppy farmers who are only in it to make money.
Wish puppy owners had to be licensed before they could buy one instead of trying to get the dogs licensed.
hi roomby,
at the moment their are only 2 breeders of puggles in the UK, in Scotland. Hardly suprising since the cost of a well bred pug is near to 1000.00 and a similar amount for a well bred beagle. That said (before you all start telling me how horrid and loathsome it all is....people make a living out of doing much worse than breeding puppies) A puggle can fetch as much as 700.00
