That's very beautiful maggie. If you don't mind I'd like to add one that I found some years ago.

The Loss of a Heart-Dog

I stood by your bed last night,
I came to have a peep
I could see that you were crying,
you found it hard to sleep
I whined to you softly as
you brushed away a tear,
"it's me, I haven't left,
I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here"
I was close to you at breakfast,
I watched you pour the tea
You were thinking of the many times,
your hands reached down to me
I was with you at the shops today,
your arms were getting sore
I longed to take your parcels,
I wish I could do more
I was with you at my grave today,
you tend it with such care
I want to reassure you,
that I'm not lying there
I walked with you towards the house,
as you fumbled for your key
I gently put my paw on you,
I smiled and said "it's me"
You look so very tired,
and sank into a chair
I tried so hard to let you know,
that I was standing there
It's possible for me,
to be so near you everyday
To say to you with certainty,
"I never went away"
You sat there very quietly,
then smiled, I think you knew
In the stillness of that evening,
I was very close to you
The day is over,
I smile and watch you yawning
And say "goodnight, God bless,
I'll see you in the morning"
And when the time is right for you
to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you
and we'll stand, side by side
I have so many things to show you,
there is so much for you to see
Be patient, live your journey out,
then come home to be with me.

Thanks Cetti. I just about managed to get to the end with a couple of breathers inbetween.
These ones from the Jerry Green Foundation are nice too.http://www.jerrygreen.org.uk/doggerel.htm
Those are others are lovely ...Maggie and Cetti...very moving.
P.S ..I have posted the one called Alone Again on the thread about the poor dog left outside all the time.I think it was Twinkles thread.Perhaps it will jerk her friend's heartstrings a bit !
Question Author
Some of them are so sad shaneystar, unfortunately they are very true.

Right.....that does it....i've got a complaint!!!!

I cried loads over the 1st poem, blubbed like a baby over 2nd one.....then I went on Twinkles thread and the poem Shaneystar put on there finally finished me off.

I'm an emotional wreak here.....thank you very much! :-(

Question Author
Sorry Boo, I only put it on here because at least two people have lost their dogs in the last few weeks. I still can't read Rainbow Bridge all in one go.

Here is one for horses.

Somewhere somewhere in times own space there must be some sweet pastured place, Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow some paradise where horses go. for by the love that guides my pen...I know great horses live again

maggie, I do apologose for appearing to monopolise your thread. I didn't realise that poem was soooo long.
Question Author
Cetti. That's no worry. Your poems although very sad, were a delight to read ( no sure that's the right thing to say) but you know what I mean.
Question Author
Cetti I hope you didn't take it the wrong way. My comment about the breathers inbetween were because I got chocked reading them not because it was a long poem.
Oh no maggie nothing like that. I just felt it was so rude of me plonking the poem in what was after all your thread. Thank you for being so kind. :-)
