So the petition is to stop 3 concert venue's in uk from letting this group perform because a band member supports or as been involved in whale cruelty in he's home country???

I won't sign. I am very much against animal cruelty and captive whales and orcas but this band is from the Faroe Islands and I am no more going to complain about those Islanders hunting and eating whales than I am going to complain about Innuits doing the same.

I might object to the singer's stance on violence towards the objectors, though.

They eat them. They may also enjoy hunting them but they do use the meat and blubber.

It is barbaric to my eyes but so are many of our customary practices barbaric to other people.

Less understandable to me is British people going to watch captive killer whales in countries like Spain and the US for fun.

So, emmie, you think it is acceptable for killer whales to be kept in captivity and forced to perform for fun, to make profit for the company, but unacceptable for people to kill similar animals for food, fuel and clothing?

If you thought about some of our practices concerning animals and poultry for food you might them to be barbaric, too, such as the 45 million chicks put in crushers every year.

Emmie, you're right it is barbaric.

Fox hunting is part of UK culture, but we have still banned that disgusting act. The Faroese people could easily do the same with their practice.

i know that we are as bad in some respects, but to willingly kill thousands of whales, dolphins because its the culture is way off the scale of humankind.

Can't see banning a group from performing will do much good. The members have not broken any laws.

You can't compare fox hunting in the UK to the Faroe Islanders hunting whales - as far as I know we never ate fox.

We are still culling badgers and deer.
I do not appreciate interference from other countries that disapprove of my culture, my eating habits or the way I live my life within the laws of the UK.

I suggest you watch the films of this barbarity and look at the picture on the petition page, a defenceless baby ripped from its poor mother ! So what if bad things are done here in this country, how on earth does that stop you from wanting to help stop cruel practices in other countries ?? You sound so damn smug ...

I'm sure our routine meat-eating habit results in millions of sentient creatures (i.e. those who feel physical pain and mental pain) being slaughtered each year here in the UK. Just because other animals eat them doesn't give any solace to those animals who are raised in bad conditions and treated as, well, nothing at all really - just disposable lumps of meat with no brains. It saddens me that many people never even think about it; young kids often don't know where that pink stuff in plastic wrap comes from.

There are so many cruel practices going on around the world which make me sick. Bullfighting is another one. Why, just why?! Humans killing an animal instantly for food I can understand despite me being mainly a plant based eater, but deliberately causing suffering is something I will never understand.

tigger; it's part of human nature, unfortunately. Fortunately, I think most people don't enjoy inflicting suffering on other animals. But nowadays most people are remote from the raising and killing and general interaction with animals, and so they don't have to think about what their lifestyle is doing.
