Feeding The Birds

Do you put food out for the birds?

Or hedgehogs and other critters for that matter?

I've just found some florentine mince pies and mini stollen I forgot I had and some OOD Brioche buns that little G wasn't keen on and I've just thrown the lot out with some crusts of bread.

I like looking after the birdies :-)

I never thought of that, Minty. I've thrown all sorts of seeds out in the recent past.

Rowan ... wow ... I never would have thought of anything like that. My mind is now going 10 to the dozen wondering if OH can build me something amazing to go in the garden.

we also get some terrible fights especially between magpies/rooks/crows get very bloody and violent

Scan today, plus a phone consultation with Rheumatology booked for 20th. Anything more urgent I expect I will get a phone call.

the cage things for feeding would be a problem for me as they would cause grass to perish.. and I like a clean sweep to mow the lawns..in the summer..if it ever returns !

There aren't many cats around here fortunately. Our one set of neighbours had two aged dogs but they're barely there these days and our other neighbours who just moved out had a dog and the couple who just moved in don't appear to have pets.

I haven't seen much bloody fighting here, Minty, just the odd ruffling of feathers.

hope it drys up a bit today..getting stir crazy although I have to be in twixt 1 and 6pm for gas engineer to sort our hot water problem

We had some rain come down yesterday, Minty, but thankfully it was over before I left work.

I'm glad I'm working from home today. Trouble is the birds tend to be less enthusiastic about feeding when I'm sat there in that back room, nervous little mites.

I would imagine the self feeding whilst working from home is more of an issue ! ;0) lol x

I used to put it at the end of a path I put down a square of slabs. So I could scrub the area down every couple of weeks. I found cleaning all the feeders was a job and a half. I only did it once a month but taking them down, emptying them and refilling them was a good hour to 90 minute job. Anything I took out was taken to the park and put out on the grass. I also grew a fair few things with berries including a couple of rowans, a Hawthorn and tree form ivy , as well as teasels for the goldfinches which I dipped in fat once the seeds had been stripped out, and sunflowers.

hopefully lady ..it is fluctuating from tepid to nearly hot.. something awry in boiler..although heating is fine

They will get used to you once They associate you with food. I had a robin that perched close by me when I was digging. Probably because he could pop down and grab any wriggly things I unearthed. Or maybe it was because I had a tub of mealworms in my pocket.

If I won the lottery a bungalow with a big garden near an estuary is first on the list.

the blackbirds follow me around the garden when weeding etc they get very close hoping to scavenge any tasty creepy crawlies I unearth..in Norfolk the robins fed from my hands

Rowan, you sound like a devoted bird lover. You've put me and my crusts to shame.

Do you find creatures vary in their behaviours depending on their geographical location? We sat in a park in Boston and the squirrels were practically all over us. I've never seen them like that in this country.

It's a shame all this morning spam wasn't the edible kind and then we could throw that out to the birds too.
