ALDI to the rescue. I got a silicon pet dustpan and brush set that came with a pet brush.
He seems to actually enjoy it. I alternate strokes with just my hand and with the brush. He still sheds...where does it all come from?

Merlin had long silky fur and she loved getting groomed, she would bite my hand when she'd had enough - usually about two seconds.

Toby allows you to groom him and that is trust on his part. Can you clip his murder mittens?

Question Author
Oh gosh no! Trust doesn't go that far...yet. Instead, I will allow him to slowly shred my favourite rugs... :(
Have you not got a scratching post, pasta?
Mine use it all the time although the tom has an occasional go at the stair carpet.
Question Author
Not yet. Toby is very wary of anything new. I'm thinking of getting one of these though...less investment in case he doesn't like it.

My kitties loved that scratching object, they used to sleep on it
Question Author
It's probably good as a back scratcher ;)
I'll see if I can find one in town...otherwise Amazon it is.
Mine are like yours, RH. Use the scratching post but only sleep on the other type.
The best scratching post we ever had was an accident!!
They loved the side strut of a pine unit we had - so we ended up stripping it into pieces and just let them scratch away into it.
when all the bits of naked pine were scratched up - we went to a DIY store and bought another bit of pine.
