I have a 4 year old cat that is very laid back and friendly. She is even quite happy when my friend brings her dog round. My partner and i would love a small dog to come on walks with us etc but would it be a good idea. we work 10-4. Do you think dogs and cats get along??

Definitely. If you get a puppy, the cat will put it in its place if it is a bit rough at first, but if you go for an older dog, make sure you get one that is used to cats. You can retrain them but it is easier for everyone if they are already used to them.

My brother has a rescue dog which he acquired some time after his two rescue cats. The cats were initially horrified and bullied her (she's a collie cross, so not small, and was around 5 years old). They now get on great, and George or Ringo will now often share Tess' basket.
Also, if you're in doubt, ask the people you get the dog from. My brother got tess from Battersea, who tell you whether the dog gets on with cats, children etc
if you work from 10-4 dont get a puppy get an older dog, it's too long to leave a baby!
