When I was first looking for a dog for myself, I happened to see several greyhounds and lurchers in my city centre. A local rescue was showing them off...for want of a better term. I'd never seen them and knew little about these amazing gentle creatures. A few months later, I'd adopted my own sweet girl. She was my soul mate dog for 10years. They are extremely underrated and made lovely pets.
Ken4155 whispering just in case the guy on the avatar isn't really sleeping;
I don't really have a favourite breed of dog. My last dog, Molly, was meant to be a miniature Doberman, but i think she was more Heinz 57 than enything else. I had her for 15 years and she was the most faithful, gentle and sweet animal i have ever come across.
Milo, the guy in the avatar, isn't gentle, nor sweet, but he is full of character, quite mischievous at times, yet makes me laugh out loud almost every day.
Border collie. I've had the pleasure of knowing several over the years. My goodness they are something else.
One I know responds to hand signals (as well as voice) and can identify a particular toy out of many. Another I knew was taught in about 30 mins to perfectly carry out the task of ringbearer at his master's wedding (brought the house down). Another who had "anger issues" after being abandoned formed a bond with me so that I could go off on my own into the Scottish lochs and mountains and she would warn me of anyone's approach but come back to me on recall.
Really clever dogs. But with them "once is a habit".
If someone had told my JR, Milo, he was only a little dog, i may never have got him. He used to be my son's dog, but got into an argument with his other dog, Murphy, a lurcher.
The result was that Milo almost lost his life and had to have an operation on his throat. And, of course, the two could not share the same space again so i took him in.
Hasn't learned his lesson though - still thinks he's the baddest guy in town 🙄
We've had 7 dogs since we got married.
Flossie a JR
Lady JR cross, most gentle easy to train dog I've ever known
Pepper a proper Parson JR, absolute fruitcake, still destroying Mrs N shoes at 8 and lived to almost 21.
Casa a JR, little posh paws, didnt like getting he feet wet or dirty.
Tess a JR cross Corgi, started out a 👿, but turned out loving.
Them we had a break saying not having another dog, 20 days later we got. Betsy, a Fox Terrier on the right of my avatar, ignorant but friendly.
Lastly Mabel, on the left, another Foxy, little monster tries to bully Betsy all the time.
No preference to breeds really, always fancied a Dachshund again, which was a family dog before married, and there were also Lancashire Heelers.
Golly Gosh TTT!! Lots of similarities with my Jay who was also a Rescue. He was advertised for sale by "caravan people" on some website and bought by a woman as a toy for her two young children. Within 2 weeks she took him to a vet to put him to sleep as he had growled at her children when they stuck a pencil in his ear. The vet refused and sent J to a Rescue he supported. The bit of paperwork that came with him tells me I am his 8th owner. Appalling. He has been with me since Sept 2020 and is a very happy chappie.
